How to Prevent Neck Pain While Sitting at Your Desk

Sitting at a computer for hours at a time can lead to pain, like frequent headaches, stiffness or pain in your neck, shoulders, and upper back and more. Improving your posture can dramatically improve your symptoms, including neck pain.

Our chiropractors at Atlanta Spine & Wellness in Chamblee, GA can evaluate your lifestyle, posture, and work environment to determine the root cause of your neck pain.

Tips for Neck Pain Relief

Posture is the first place we’ll look. How do you hold your head? Do you hunch? Where is the computer screen in relation to your eyes? And so on. Poor posture alone can be a major pain in the neck.

Keep your feet flat on the floor, and keep your back straight. Make sure your head remains in a “neutral” position, with your ears directly above your shoulders. Adjust your chair’s seat so your legs angle slightly down, which distributes your weight more evenly, relieving pressure on your lower back.

To make your workstation more ergonomic, adjust the height of your computer monitor. Your monitor should be directly in front of you, with the center of the computer screen level with your nose. This ensures you aren’t constantly lowering your head to see your screen. You should also get up and walk around every half hour to 45 minutes to get your body moving and blood flowing.
